I am 62 yars old and heading for a retirement without funds as I am in a minority group of people that have worked all their lives (since 15 year old three weeks out of work and because I had a small fund, I recieved the princely sum of £47.00) I spent 13 years in the Forces Army Active service in Malaysia and Borneo, The forgotten war at least journalists were thin on the ground then in fact nearly non existant. It must be really difficult to conduct battles, ambushes when the enemy can tune into the local TV station and be informed of your exact location and intentions. We also missed having film crews hovering like vultures,attempting to get some good footage of Mr Mrs Name ?????? little boy/girl getting wiped off the face of the earth for the news broadcasts at home.
The rest of my Army career was spent in Germany apart for one year that I spent in England (Ace Mobile Force a multi national task force on 12 hour standby Apart for the annual 6 week winter warfare training in Norway.
I left the Army and stayed in Germany as a UK based civilian with AKC (now the Services Sound and Vision Corporation) I stayed with them for 20 years until some time after the Berlin Wall came down I was actually in the city the weekend after this happened.
On leaving the SSVC I returned to the UK thinking that all would be fine here I was amazed at the cost of living here, having lived in Gemany for so long, also the absolute lawlessness that exists here,and a Police force that is run purely as a commercial venture.
